Before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia I was the healthiest I had ever been. I walked 5-7 miles everyday, all year long. I was at a comfortable weight and had the energy to do everything I wanted to do. I had no health issues and had a very positive disposition. My condition was diagnosed almost 3 yrs ago (at age 46) after month of doctor appts. and misdiagnosing. I finally was referred to a specialist and he told me what I had. He put me on antidepressants and nortriptlyn for the sleep disorder that accompanies it. My sleep improved once on meds. The rest of my symptoms just had to be coped with. The symptoms are constant but flare-ups occur and during these times I am pretty much bedridden until it subsides. I wake up in the morning feeling like I ve been run over by a truck. It feels as if I am bruised all over my body. The fatigue is very hard to describe. It feels like you are getting the flu or a terrible virus. My husband says fibro took my smile and laughter. I went to a homeopathic doctor this summer and she was very helpful with the gastrointestinal symptoms by treating me for an overgrowth of yeast. My pain remained the same. Last spring my doctor prescribed ultracet for the pain. It has greatly improved my ability to go to work because it dulls the pain somewhat but I still have to be careful not to overdue the exertion. I can take up to 6 a day but I take 2 before work and sometimes on weekends I take a 3rd if I want to go out to dinner Since taking the ribose the biggest change has been my energy. Fatigue has been reduced dramatically. I feel tired after a busy day now, but I don t start the day exhausted. My pain has improved somewhat also. The areas where I feel the most relief are those that had been the worst the fleshy part on the inside of both knees and elbows. It hasn t cured me, but I feel like it is definitely worthwhile. I now find that most days I am able to walk around the building (it is a large school) without any wincing or limping. This year due to the marked improvement I have already seen in taking Corvalen since only 3-6-04, I have postponed my ejection fraction study to early May '04. I have suffered seriously with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue for my lifetime, 54 years, and my most recent bout has been overwhelming for the past four years. I am completely disabled. I have tried and evaluated almost every prescription drug and alternative health product for pain relief throughout the past four years. Actually, nothing works for me. I am on oxycontin, neurontin, and lortab for pain relief. The few people who do find relief are women, those lucky gals, by use of antidepressants administered by injection. The vast majority simply suffer and hope for a new drug. As I told Judy, I have evaluated your CORvalen (d-ribose) and it is very good for pain relief and fighting chronic fatigue, as compared to all of the other products I have tried. I still need the hi-potency pain relief drugs for relief, but as a health food product, your d-ribose is the best. It doesnt cure me, but it helps me get through each day. My first doctor, an expert in infectious diseases, put me on Enada (NADH), 5 mg, three times per day. It did nothing for raising my ATP. Your product, I feel, is much better. In 1991, I suffered a severe heart attack that damaged the lower ventricle of my heart which pumps the blood to the body and brain. The improvement in my health in the past month is absolutely phenomenal. Dr. Vijay cannot believe it and neither can I. My labs have improved dramatically. My kidney functions have improved. My liver functions have improved. My overall functions physically being able to do things have improved beyond my own thought processes because I was so sick. I was at a point where before I started on this I could not walk around my own house without being winded. I had to use a walker in the house. Exercise training is an important part of a cardiac rehabilitation program. Studies have clearly demonstrated the importance of regular exercise in lowering mortality in cardiovascular disease. Sedentary or lower activity individuals who aggressively undertook a more active exercise regimen reduced their risk of cardiovascular mortality. Randomized cardiac rehabilitation trials involving patients following a recent myocardial infarction have shown survival benefit trends of 20-25% reduction in cardiovascular death. Most rehabilitated patients usually tolerate limited physical activities. However, when post infarcted patients are stressed to increase their work rate, some individuals fail. Manifestations of ischemia, or reduced blood flow to the heart, tend to occur at increased workloads, affecting a patients ultimate progress in rehabilitation. Furthermore, clinical findings have shown that exercise training improves measured peak functional capacity, which include hemodynamic and cardiac modeling changes. Peak oxygen uptake varies between patients, however, improvement in aerobic capacity occurs due to spontaneous recovery following infarction. Dynamic aerobic exercise is necessary to improve cardiovascular performance. Resistance exercise has shown to be a useful adjunctive component for positive benefits in strength and muscular endurance; however, resistance activities, like all other forms of exercise must be supervised in order to minimize risk. Therefore, a degree and mode of exercise that is safe and ultimately effective is a principle goal for each patient. Though the risk of sudden death during exercise in rehabilitation is low, this risk is higher than that reported for normal healthy individuals. Another goal of cardiac rehabilitation programs is helping patients return to work in a timely manner, potentially with no restrictions. Assessing the effect of exercise training on rates of return to work is very difficult because, in addition to exercise, multiple factors influence this outcome. Previous surveys have shown that 49-93% of post-infarcted patients return to work, with no difference in the rate of return to work for those treated medically or those undergoing revascularization. Demographic and socioeconomic factors weigh heavily, with physical, emotional, and medical parameters having less importance as determinant factors in these individuals. Not surprisingly, the patient's own perception about his or her activity level plays a role in individual ultimate outcome. Ribose, a natural occurring 5-carbon sugar, has shown promise as an oral supplement for use in cardiovascular disease. Ribose aids in the production of high-energy phosphates, mainly adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP molecules are necessary to provide the integrity and function of every cell in our bodies. I have tried and evaluated almost every prescription drug and alternative health product for pain relief throughout the past four years. Actually, nothing works for me. I am on oxycontin, neurontin, and lortab for pain relief. The few people who do find relief are women, those lucky gals, by use of antidepressants administered by injection. Exercise training is an important part of a cardiac rehabilitation program. Studies have clearly demonstrated the importance of regular exercise in lowering mortality in cardiovascular disease. Sedentary or lower activity individuals who aggressively undertook a more active exercise regimen reduced their risk of cardiovascular mortality. Randomized cardiac rehabilitation trials involving patients following a recent myocardial infarction have shown survival benefit trends of 20-25% reduction in cardiovascular death. Most rehabilitated patients usually tolerate limited physical activities. However, when post infarcted patients are stressed to increase their work rate, some individuals fail. Manifestations of ischemia, or reduced blood flow to the heart, tend to occur at increased workloads, affecting a patients ultimate progress in rehabilitation. Furthermore, clinical findings have shown that exercise training improves measured peak functional capacity, which include hemodynamic and cardiac modeling changes. Peak oxygen uptake varies between patients, however, improvement in aerobic capacity occurs due to spontaneous recovery following infarction. Dynamic aerobic exercise is necessary to improve cardiovascular performance. Resistance exercise has shown to be a useful adjunctive component for positive benefits in strength and muscular endurance; however, resistance activities, like all other forms of exercise must be supervised in order to minimize risk. Therefore, a degree and mode of exercise that is safe and ultimately effective is a principle goal for each patient. Though the risk of sudden death during exercise in rehabilitation is low, this risk is higher than that reported for normal healthy individuals. Another goal of cardiac rehabilitation programs is helping patients return to work in a timely manner, potentially with no restrictions. Assessing the effect of exercise training on rates of return to work is very difficult because, in addition to exercise, multiple factors influence this outcome. Previous surveys have shown that 49-93% of post-infarcted patients return to work, with no difference in the rate of return to work for those treated medically or those undergoing revascularization. Demographic and socioeconomic factors weigh heavily, with physical, emotional, and medical parameters having less importance as determinant factors in these individuals. Not surprisingly, the patient's own perception about his or her activity level plays a role in individual ultimate outcome. Ribose, a natural occurring 5-carbon sugar, has shown promise as an oral supplement for use in cardiovascular disease. Ribose aids in the production of high-energy phosphates, mainly adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP molecules are necessary to provide the integrity and function of every cell in our bodies. Myocardial ischemia produces a reduction in tissue ATP levels, ultimately affecting mechanical function. Studies have shown that a reversible state of global ischemia produces a lowering in myocardial ATP levels, as much as 50% from baseline values. Coupled with this deficiency is a temporal relationship of depression in myocardial function. This suppression in ATP levels and function slowly improve, taking approximately a week to return to baseline status. Supplementation with ribose has been shown to replenish these depressed levels with improving myocardial function by 1-2 days. Patients with stable coronary artery disease were assessed to see if supplemental ribose might provide subjective and/or objective benefits in their disease. Patients were enrolled and randomized to receive either ribose or dextrose (control) supplementation after demonstrating either episodes of angina or electrocardiographic changes while on a treadmill. Following three days of supplementation, a repeat treadmill was performed. Patients receiving ribose demonstrated a decreased number of anginal episodes and/or electrocardiographic changes, compared to the control group. Some ribose patients experienced no angina during repeat treadmill testing, contra to their baseline assessment. It is obvious that with the continued number of patients afflicted with cardiovascular disease, cardiac rehabilitation is a beneficial means of providing education and training necessary for patients to return, to the best of their ability, to their pre-infarction lifestyle or better.
